Air Ambulance

CareFlight International Air Ambulance is an Australian aeromedical retrieval and repatriation service. We provide specialist medical teams to critically ill and injured patients anywhere in the world and have the capability to organise the most complex mission.

CareFlight International
Air Ambulance extends an Australian teaching hospital standard of intensive care to patients around the world.

CareFlight International Air Ambulance has been in operation since 1990. We work out of Sydney, Darwin, Cairns and Perth. The revenue generated by CareFlight International Air Ambulance missions goes directly to supporting our charitable operations.

International Retrieval Teams

Our retrieval teams comprise experienced doctors, nurses and/or paramedics:

All new recruits undertake an intensive<br />training course in retrieval medicine.

  • CareFlight doctors hold specialist qualifications in anaesthesia, intensive care or emergency medicine. They are also experienced in managing the critically injured and ill in the out-of-hospital and transport environment.
  • CareFlight paramedics are aviation certified and trained in extricating patients from unusual environments.
  • CareFlight nurses are intensive care and aviation nursing certified, and hold current aircrew certification under the Civil Aviation Regulations.

CareFlight International Air Ambulance extends an Australian teaching hospital standard of intensive care to the most remote areas, and maintains this level of care throughout the sometimes difficult journey home.

Aircraft

CareFlight uses dedicated, medically configured jets for both international and domestic retrievals. Rostered doctors and registered nurses allow our dedicated jets to repond and be airborne within two hours of tasking. With jets based in Sydney, Darwin and Perth, CareFlight is well placed to service the South Pacific, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea and Australasia.

Commercial airlines are the most cost-effective means of transporting the critically ill over very long distances. Crew members are staged at stopover points to ensure continuity of care. Patients requiring intensive life support and ventilation are routinely transported to and from the United States and Europe.
