CareFlight International

CareFlight International provides Specialist Medical Teams to critically ill patients anywhere in the world. We have the capability to organise the most complex mission.

CareFlight International extends an Australian teaching hospital standard of intensive care to patients around the world.

CareFlight International has been in operation since 1990. We work out of Sydney and Darwin, where we have recently opened a base. The profits generated by CareFlight International missions go directly to supporting our charitable operations in NSW.

International Retrieval Teams

CareFlight International retrieval teams comprise experienced doctors, nurses and paramedics:

  • CareFlight doctors hold specialist qualifications in anaesthesia, intensive care or emergency medicine. They are also experienced in managing the critically injured and ill in the out-of-hospital and transport environment.
  • CareFlight paramedics are aviation certified and trained in extricating patients from unusual environments.
  • CareFlight nurses are intensive care and aviation nursing certified, and hold current aircrew certification under the Civil Aviation Regulations.

CareFlight extends an Australian teaching hospital standard of intensive care to the most remote areas, and maintains this level of care throughout the sometimes difficult journey home.

Aircraft

CareFlight uses both chartered and commercial aircraft for international retrievals:

  • Commercial airlines are the most cost-effective means of transporting the critically ill over very long distances. Crew members are staged at stopover points to ensure continuity of care. Patients requiring intensive life support and ventilation are routinely transported to and from the United States and Europe.
  • Charter aircraft are used for retrievals to and from destinations in South-East Asia and Australasia. CareFlight has an alliance with Pel-Air Aviation which supplies medi-jets specially configured to meet our medical requirements.
