The last weekend in February saw the annual Sussex Inlet Choppers for Charity held on the beautiful South Coast of NSW. The weekend was wonderfully organised as always and the community turned out to support CareFlight, enjoying barefoot bowls, golf, a dinner dance, street parade and market stalls. more

Umina’s Andy Moses put aside the horror of his young son’s accident in bringing the reality of how CareFlight helps treat badly injured children and adults during a major Central Coast fundraising event. Andy, with the assistance of Good News Church and the support of local businesses and community, organised a fundraising dinner to raise funds for CareFlight's medical services. more
For 21 years the dedicated community of Wisemans Ferry have been running the 'Police and Citizens Golf Day for CareFlight'. This year’s event attracted over 100 players and raised over $35,000 for our charity. The day started with a beautiful breakfast by the river, followed by nine holes of golf (four man ambrose) and then lunch on course and the spectacular arrival of the CareFlight helicopter and crew. After lunch, the annual auction was held, attracting a few hundred participants from right around the area who congregated at the Bowling Club to grab a bargain.
The annual Oktoberfest Charity Gala at the Lowenbrau Keller Oktoberfest Bier Hall raised more than $120,000 for CareFlight and Starlight. Guests dressed up in the traditional Oktoberfest dirndl and lederhosen as they enjoyed ‘pure biers’ and a sumptuous Oktoberfest spread. Host Larry Emdur ensured guests were in the Oktoberfest spirit while Sophie Katanis and her band got the crowd dancing to 80s classics. The Lowenbrau Keller is part of the Bavarian Hospitality Group (BHG) which owns a number of venues including the newly-renovated Argyle in the Rocks and the Bavarian Bier Cafes. Car crashes, police, fire and ambulance vehicles, flashing lights, sirens and severely injured people, all happening at Acer Arena while the annual Youth and Road Trauma Forum was staged. This forum, for teenagers from all over the state who are just starting to drive, graphically shows what can happen in a car crash and what happens afterwards to those involved. It was compered by CareFlight's Dr Ken Harrison whose message is that he doesn’t want to meet young people at car crashes. Thanks to Chris Googe who managed our involvement and special thanks to the seven volunteers who helped out over the three days.
Although Friday the 13th may be unlucky for some, it definitely was not so for CareFlight when John Hexton from Inghams presented a cheque for $75,000 to a CareFlight contingent who attended the annual Narellan Rotary Charity Ball. This very generous donation was arranged by the Rotary Club in recognition of our trauma service, medical research and education. A lot of behind-the-scenes work goes into making this happen, so thank you and well done to all those involved.
The last weekend in July saw a hardy group set off on the latest CareFlight 4WD venture. Starting at Moss Vale, staying overnight at Oberon on both nights and finishing at Little Hartley, the route covered some very interesting territory. The course was made just that bit harder by lots of wet weather and even some snow/sleet. At the end of the three days some very muddy cars emerged with some very happy crews.
The CareFlight Woodford to Glenbrook Classic 2010 took place on a perfect sunny day, despite gloomy weather predictions. This year's event attracted a record 1,100 entrants who ran or rode the scenic Oaks Fire Trail through the beautiful Blue Mountains National Park, from the town of Woodford down to the Euroka Clearing near Glenbrook. more
A cool morning greeted the participants of the Inaugural Western Sydney Golf Day at Twin Creeks Golf and Country Club. After tea, coffee and Danishes at registration, the groups headed out onto the course for a wonderful day of golf. As the morning warmed up so did the golfing, though some teams had difficulty avoiding the 180+ sand traps! more
CareFlight's inaugural Central Coast Golf Day at Kooindah Waters Golf Club took place on a perfect morning. The event raised over $2,500 for CareFlight, with the funds to be used to continue to provide a rapid response critical care service to people on the Central Coast and Greater Sydney Area. more
The annual Choppers for Charity tradition continued at Sussex Inlet on the last weekend in February, with the whole community banding together to raise funds for NRMA CareFlight. Barefoot lawn bowls, charity golf, a dinner dance, street parade and community festival were all part of this wonderful event. more
While it was pouring with rain in Sydney on Valentines Day weekend, on the mid north coast it was 32 degrees and bright sunlight - perfect! After a spectacular dinner at the Wauchope RSL Club on the Saturday night, the IGA Northern Locals hosted the annual IGA Golf Day at Wauchope Golf Club on Sunday. more
NRMA Motorfest has been a feature of Sydney’s Australia Day celebrations for the past 25 years and this year showcased over 1,000 vintage, veteran and classic vehicles, including motorcycles, ex-military cars, vintage fire engines and cars from Sydney's speedway. NRMA CareFlight was again part of the NRMA Motorfest, with the NRMA CareFlight Rescue Simulator on display. People were able to talk to CareFlight staff and volunteers about our lifesaving work and go on a 'Mission' in the simulator.
A new event for CareFlight was the 2010 Australia Day Parramatta City Council Family Fun Day at the Village Hub, Parramatta Park. We are starting to work more closely with Parramatta City Council and were invited to show the Parramatta Community what CareFlight is all about. A CareFlight team was present to talk to people about our work and the CareFlight Crash Simulator was on show for people to inspect.
NRMA Motoring and Services held a black tie event at Sydney Town Hall to mark NRMA's 90th birthday, with CareFlight selected as the charity to benefit from funds raised at the event. CareFlight CEO Derek Colenbrander and Founding Director Ian Badham attended, as well as members of the community engagement team who dressed up in flight suits and mingled with the crowds, collecting donations. At the conclusion of the evening, NRMA CEO Tony Stewart presented CareFlight with a cheque for $50,000, which was in addition to the $8000 donated by the 300 guests. A remarkable effort and a huge thank you to all involved.
The Wentworth Falls Golf Day broke with tradition this year, and instead of the usual rain, cloud and cold weather which heralds this annual CareFlight event, clear skies and sunshine welcomed the more than 70 exuberant golfers. more
On Friday 13 November a convoy of 20 CareFlight supporter 4WDs took off on an adventure, spreading the word of CareFlight while tackling the ever surprising twists and turns that would soon turn a tame bunch of CareFlight enthusiasts into a band of adventurers!more
The Wisemans Ferry Police and Citizens Golf Day was a huge success, raising more than $23,900 for CareFlight. An early breakfast was followed by nine holes of golf, lunch and then the very popular auction held at the Bowling Club. more
Bavarian Hospitality was on show at this year’s Oktoberfest to raise funds for NRMA CareFlight. Now in its 10th year, the event was again an outstanding success with over 400 partygoers turning the Moore Park venue into the most authentic Oktoberfest this side of Bavaria. more
The new CareFlight Truck was on the road on Sunday morning to take the Rescue Helicopter Simulator to the Crestwood Fair held in Baulkham Hills. This event attracts many thousands of Hills Shire residents who enjoy rides, food, entertainment, displays, markets, demonstrations, etc. more
Thanks to a huge amount of work by our Community Engagement Co-ordinator, John Ebbott, NRMA CareFlight was chosen as one of a few charities who could benefit from fundraising by entrants in this year's Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. The event included a half-marathon, full marathon, family fun run (walk), a wheelchair race and a bridge run - all in the name of enjoying the best of Sydney and raising funds for charity. more
The fourth annual Tahmoor Community CareFlight Day was by far the biggest and best yet. It had everything from emergency displays to rides, community stalls to acrobatic displays and fly pasts, a hot air balloon, helicopters, race cars, laser skirmish, wheelchair basketball, parachutists, face painting, Jack Russell racing - even a display by the RAAF Roulettes! more
For the second year in a row, the Mercedes Benz Club invited NRMA CareFlight to be the beneficiary of its annual show, the 'Concours d'Elegance'. Held in Parramatta Park, the event featured all types of Mercedes Benz vehicles as well as a swap, meet and market. A portion of each car's entry fee was set aside for NRMA CareFlight and merchandise was available for purchase at the CareFlight tent, throughout the day. Thanks again to the Mercedes Benz Club for their ongoing support.
A team of volunteers and staff from NRMA CareFlight assisted with the annual Youth Road Trauma Forum held over three days at Acer Arena, Homebush. Over 10,000 students watched in awe as a car crash and rescue were graphically re-enacted, showing them the dangers of drink driving and the need for common sense on the road. The commentary delivered by CareFlight trauma specialist Dr Ken Harrison starkly brought home the message. The NRMA CareFlight Helicopter Rescue Simulator was on display along with Colin Seiders and his V8 Supercar.
In a remarkable night of donation distribution, CareFlight recently received a notable boost of $50,000 from the annual Narellan Rotary ball held recently at the Roma Function Centre in Liverpool. The club secured the donation from Inghams Enterprises which has strongly supported our trauma service to the residents of south-western Sydney and adjacent regions. Special thanks to John Hexton of Inghams, Les Arnold who heads up the Rotary Ball committee and Richard Leemen the president of the Rotary Club of Narellan which stages this amazing community donation night.

Congratulations to Gaby, Belinda and little Tristan on winning a giant NRMA CareFlight Pilot Bear, raffled at the NRMA Burwood branch. Gaby said she was delighted to win the bear. “I bought a new car three months ago and when I went into NRMA Burwood to fix up the insurance, I bought a raffle ticket. Tristan had just been born and I thought the bear would be great for him! I went back to NRMA again last week and bought another ticket.” NRMA Branch Manager Robert Fahim said this was the lucky ticket that won. “I am pleased to see that the bear went to someone who will appreciate it and put it to good use.” Robert thanked all his staff for their hard work around the raffle, and said they hoped to hold another one in September.

A cool but fine morning met the runners as they lined up for the Blacktown City Fun Run. When the gun was fired at 7.30am, over 200 runners set off on the 4km and 10km course around Eastern Creek Raceway. Many of the runners were raising funds for NRMA CareFlight while enjoying the run. The CareFlight rescue simulator was on display and was a great hit with kids of all ages. Thanks to CareFlight Volunteer Neil, who got up early to help with the day. A crisp and clear autumn morning greeted Aeromodellers and Spectators from far and wide for the 2009 Gosford City Aeromodellers Air Show where a massive crowd enjoyed an action-packed day. Easter was a weekend of bulls and belt buckles with the Gigandra Rodeo going ahead despite showers. Organisers were pleased with this year's event which attracted a top line-up of competitors in the 250 nominations. Events included novice and open bull ride, saddle bronc, bareback, teamroping rope and tie, barrel racing and steerwrestling, with plenty of entries for the younger generation in the poddy rides. Thanks to the Gilgandra community for supporting NRMA CareFlight.
The Easyriders Motorcycle Club held their 2nd annual motorcycle expo at the Nepean Rowing Club in Penrith in late March, raising funds for the NSW Major Incident Unit (VRA), NRMA CareFlight and Save the Children. Hot Rods and Bikes were on display throughout the day along with a number of other displays and activities for the whole family, including the NRMA CareFlight Rescue Simulator which was never empty of children and adults from the moment it arrived. A big thank you to the Easyriders Motorcycle Club for their support of NRMA CareFlight. Thanks also to our merry band of CareFlight volunteers who were on hand from very early in the morning selling merchandise, operating the simulator and spreading the NRMA CareFlight message. The Mid-Coast community has raised more than $50,000 to support NRMA CareFlight. Nineteen IGA stores from Bulahdelah to Coffs Harbour, their customers, sponsors and suppliers staged a series of fundraising events which culminated in a dinner and golf day at Wauchope. more
The NRMA Motorfest was once again a huge success with thousands of people walking past the vintage cars lining the streets of Sydney. The NRMA CareFlight Rescue Simulator was a major attraction at the Kids' Zone in front of St Mary’s Cathedral. While the children played in the helicopter, parents and other adults asked questions of the staff and volunteers manning the display. It was a great opportunity to tell people about the work that CareFlight does in the community - an extremely worthwhile event.
From 4 to 7 December NRMA CareFlight worked with the Colin Seiders Racing team and NRMA Motoring & Services to raise awareness of CareFlight’s life-saving work and raise funds during the process. Being the last race meeting at historic Oran Park Raceway, the crowds were huge. The CareFlight stand was manned by staff and volunteers and the response from the passing crowd was very positive. The kids loved playing in the Rescue Simulator and merchandise sales raised thousands of dollars for CareFlight, the Colin Seiders V8 SuperCar Bear proving particularly popular.
Eastern Creek was the place to be over the weekend to see an amazing array of cars from around the world. With over 400 historic racing cars, sedans and sports cars, there was a large international presence at the competition. Historic Sports and Racing Car Association president Mr Peter Addison said, “Overseas interest in the 2nd running of this event has been very strong. The concept of the HSRCA’s 2006 1960s Tasman Revival meeting paying tribute to this golden era of Australian Motorsport has seen overseas interest consolidate into a huge entry.” NRMA CareFlight had a presence at the event with volunteers manning a stand and selling over $1400 worth of merchandise.
Hundreds of thousands of people lined the streets of Sydney last Sunday to watch the second annual Sydney Christmas Parade. Organisers estimate over 200,000 people turned out for the event which featured around 60 floats and passed through the city centre to finish with festivities in Santa’s Village at Tumbalong Park, Darling Harbour. more
Another cold and miserable November day, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the hardy group of shoppers who set out at 7.30am. A fun day was had by all with great company, great activities on the bus, a great lunch and most importantly, great bargains! Thanks to Shop and Save Tours and all those who attended.
One of the windiest days of the year saw the Rescue Simulator out again, entertaining children of all ages. William Clarke College in Kellyville, an Anglican K-12 college, invited CareFlight to attend their Big Fun Day Out, or, in old-fashioned terminology, their school fete! The wind was really gusting, and our team spent a large part of the day chasing merchandise that was blown from the stand. A new giant CareFlight Doctor Bear was raffled and quite a few items of merchandise were sold. Lots of people stopped and chatted to the crew from CareFlight, and they all went away knowing more about the work of CareFlight across Australia - a great day.
The largest cinema in Australia was filled to capacity for a special screening of the New James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. The Randwick Ritz was the perfect venue for the red carpet spectacular and all those attending dressed up for the occasion. more
