The 2008 IGA Local Heroes Regional Charity Golf Day was the biggest yet raising close to $40,000. It’s IGA’s seventh year running the day with NRMA CareFlight as the nominated charity.
The event was scheduled for the last weekend in February, and the IGA organising committee watched daily weather forecasts nervously as the mid-north coast had been hit with heavy falls throughout the summer. However, despite a wet start to the week, on the weekend the sun came out in Wauchope to welcome all players.
Saturday night kicked off the event in grand style with a wonderful three course dinner for 120 people at the Wauchope RSL Club. Most diners then grooved the night away to the local band featuring Dr John Roberts, an ex-CareFlight doctor. Our docs have many more talents than any of us could imagine!
Next morning the golfers set the pace early with much vigour and calls for the beer cart. The day was hot and the competition was fierce. The inflatable Dairy Farmers cow became the unofficial mascot! For some golfers it proved too much of a temptation as they tried to hit the cow instead of the green.
Back at the clubhouse the ladies were treated to a fantastic fashion parade of local haute couture.
The weekend wrapped up with lots of camaraderie, a traditional sausage sizzle and war stories about the shot that was nearly a hole in one.
Supa IGA Kempsey was the winning store in the hot competition for 'most money raised'. Stay tuned for an exciting local event to be held in Kempsey where IGA will present the cheque to NRMA CareFlight on behalf of the community who supported our organisation so well.
NRMA CareFlight would like to thank IGA Mid-North Coast Region stores for their generous support in getting behind the event and making it such a success. Special thanks go to the organising committee of David Price, Kylie Knights, Ray Fitzgerald, Chris Crilley, Darren Partridge, Richard O’Leary, and Debbie Jarrett for the enormous amount of time and effort they put into making the event the best yet.
