Thanks to a huge amount of work by our Community Engagement Co-ordinator, John Ebbott, NRMA CareFlight was chosen as one of a few charities who could benefit from fundraising by entrants in this year's Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. The event included a half-marathon, full marathon, family fun run (walk), wheelchair race and bridge run - all in the name of enjoying the best of Sydney and raising funds for charity.
For weeks before the event, entrants nominated their chosen charity and set about encouraging their friends and family to sponsor them in the race.
At 6am on a Sunday morning, the volunteer army of 10 people was deployed by CareFlight, many of whom had been in attendance the night before at the CareFlight Awards Night. Standing on the Opera House forecourt we were tasked with spotting 'athletes' who needed medical attention or assistance to reach the finish line. It was a long and challenging but rewarding day and full credit to everyone who gave their time to help us in this endeavour.
Although we have not had the final tally of fundraising from this event, at last count it was over $10,000 and climbing.
