Tahmoor Community Day - Saturday 15 September

Tahmoor hosted their second annual Community Day in September this year, with all funds raised going to NRMA CareFlight.

The event, which was held on the Tahmoor Oval, was part gourmet delight, part musical extravaganza, part display and part fair. Among the displays were the NRMA’s Mobile Members Centre, the NSW Fire Brigade’s 'Jaws of Life' and the NRMA CareFlight BK helicopter. The helicopter proved very popular, even drawing some visitors who appeared to be from a different galaxy!

Other attractions included jumping castles, acrobats, jugglers, face-painters and stilt walkers.

The day was a true community event. Among the few thousand people attending were Phillip Costa MLA, the local member for Wollondilly, and Cr. Judith Hannan, the Mayor of Picton.

The team behind the very successful day were Di Clarke of NRMA Picton, Di Lange of Tahmoor Town Centre (or 'Di Squared' as Ian Badham affectionately dubbed them) and eight committee members, two of whom know through experience just how valuable NRMA CareFlight’s work is.

These friends of NRMA CareFlight worked tirelessly for a whole year to put on the second Tahmoor NRMA CareFlight Community Day.

Recently they visited the Westmead base and presented the fruits of their labour, a cheque for almost $42,000, to Ian Badham at an informal gathering. This was followed by lunch, a tour of the HIRT operations centre and a heartrending thank you to NRMA CareFlight from the grateful mother of one ex-patient who would not have survived without NRMA CareFlight.

As Fundraising Director Paul Freeman said at the cheque presentation:

“For a fundraiser there is nothing more rewarding than being handed a substantial cheque from people you respect and admire for the work they have done to produce such a result. This is what NRMA CareFlight, and fundraising for NRMA CareFlight, is all about – a mutually productive relationship with our community.

Thank you to Di Squared, the committee and everyone in the community who worked so hard to make the event the success it was. Plans are already under way for next year’s event and we look forward to joining you again next year.”
