Wentworth Falls Golf Day

Thursday 8 November, 2007

The annual Wentworth Falls Golf Day was once again a great fundraising success despite the overcast and rainy day.

Organised with his usual expertise by NRMA franchisee John Wilkinson – now at Tweed Heads but formerly at Katoomba – the day started grey and bleak and despite a few bursts of sunshine stayed that way. John cajoled many of his NRMA colleagues to form teams along with golfers and sponsors from local businesses and the club.

The weather did not deter over 120 golfers taking to the fairways and driving, hacking, slicing and putting their way around the course with varying degrees of expertise.

The tricky fifth hole – nominally a par three – proved expensive for the teams. For a $10 stake the NRMA CareFlight officials offered golfers the chance to win $20 back if they could drop their ball inside a marked circle around the tee.

Of 120 players only eight managed it, to be told they would receive their winnings back at the Clubhouse. By the time they reached the Clubhouse most had forgotten all about it or were happy to donate their putative win back to NRMA CareFlight. An ideal fundraiser!

The many auction and raffle items were assembled by Rebecca Brown, Manager of the NRMA branch at Katoomba, who claims that John really does all the work but she takes the credit – John Wilkinson says it’s the other way round!

Between them they arranged a great golf day which was also a very successful fundraising event for NRMA CareFlight. Thanks to the staff of Wentworth Falls Golf Club for their help on the day, and a special mention must go to NRMA CareFlight volunteer Max Goddard who spent his day sheltering under an umbrella at the fifth tee checking who got their ball into the circle.
