Wisemans Ferry Golf Day

Tuesday 13 November, 2007

The rustic settlement of Wisemans Ferry on the Hawkesbury River is about 60 kilometres from Sydney’s CBD by distance, but a lifetime away in experience. It is an ideal place to spend a day and if you’re a golfer then the Wisemans Ferry Community Golf day was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the location and the golf course.

The local community, led by Senior Constable Mick Elvin, organises the day and they rounded up almost 100 golfers to take part in the event on the beautifully warm, spring day.

The teams, some dressed in Christmas outfits, battled the flies and bunkers as they covered the nine holes, enjoying both breakfast and lunch in a marquee on the course. Other obstacles they could not avoid included a chocolate wheel and raffle sellers who took delight in taking their money. There were even plant sales taking place with proceeds going to NRMA CareFlight.

After lunch the players adjourned across the road to the historic Wisemans Ferry Hotel to attend the auction. Over 40 items, ranging from signed sporting memorabilia to a Gold Coast holiday, attracted lots of bidders both from the golf day and pub locals.

The Wisemans Ferry Golf Day raised over $35,000 with all proceeds being donated to NRMA CareFlight.
