After a break in 2008, the annual Wisemans
Ferry Police and Citizens Golf Day was re-ignited in 2009, thanks to the efforts of some very dedicated locals.
The day began with an early morning breakfast (cooked totally free of charge by a local business) followed by nine holes of golf on the beautiful Wisemans Ferry course. The golf was followed by lunch which included a beautiful beef spit which had been cooking over coals since 5am that morning! During lunch the chocolate wheel ran continually with participants winning legions of prizes.
The highlight of the day was the annual auction held at the Wisemans Ferry Bowling Club. Local residents look forward to the auction each year which sees some very competitive bidding on a range of items from model bulldozers to memorabilia, golf clubs to truckloads of concrete. This year's auction even included a weekend accommodation package at the Adelaide River near Darwin.
The Wisemans Ferry community did an amazing job putting this event together and raised more than $23,900 for CareFlight. Special thanks to Shane and Barbara Black, John Harrison and John Graham who not only arranged to re-instate the event, but worked tirelessly to achieve the huge success that it was.
