A Blue Mountains woman suffered abdominal injuries when her car overturned on the M4 motorway at South Penrith in Sydney’s west today.
Police blocked westbound lanes to allow the NRMA CareFlight flying trauma team to land at 8.20 am at the crash 200 metres west of the Northern Road overpass.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 36-year-old woman, from Glenbrook, had been traveling east along the motorway when she lost control of the vehicle and careered across the median area and ended up, overturned, in the west bound lanes.
She was the only occupant of the car.
The woman was treated by ambulance paramedics and the NRMA CareFlight doctor as Nepean Volunteer Rescue Association officers freed her.
She was taken to Nepean Hospital in a stable condition suffering abdominal injuries.
The NRMA CareFlight helicopter landed to the side of the motorway to allow one lane to remain open to traffic, which initially was banked up almost 6 km by the crash.
