Second M4 crash blocks west -bound traffic (Orchard Hills)

For the second time in an hour, traffic on the M4 motorway, in Sydney’s west, was blocked by a motor vehicle crash this morning.

An NRMA CareFlight flying trauma team landed beside the M4 at Orchard Hills – just 2 km from where the helicopter landed on the motorway earlier to treat a Blue Mountains woman who was trapped in her car at South Penrith.

In the second crash a 67-year-old Blacktown woman was trapped when two cars and a tourist bus collided on the westbound lanes of the M4 at Orchard Hills, 100 metres from the Kingswood Road overpass.

Fortunately the Asian tourists, heading for a day outing in the Blue Mountains, escaped injury.

The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the woman suffered head injuries which left her initially unconscious.

She was freed by NSW Fire Brigade rescue officers, with police and ambulance officers also attending.

On release the woman was taken by road ambulance, under care of the NRMA CareFlight doctor, to Nepean Hospital where she was in a stable condition on arrival just before 10 am.

A male passenger in the car suffered lesser injuries and also was taken by ambulance to hospital.
