A young woman is undergoing emergency surgery after her car was crushed by a bus in a collision outside the Aquatic centre at the Homebush Bay Olympic precinct today.
An NRMA CareFlight trauma team landed in a small park beside the Aquatic Centre to work with ambulance officers in treating the woman.
Emergency services were alerted to the crash on Shane Gould Avenue shortly after midday.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 18-year-old woman’s car was crushed in the crash, trapping her in the wreckage with multiple leg and arm fractures and head injuries.
On release the woman was given a general anaesthetic and placed on a ventilator to control her breathing.
She was taken under the care of the NRMA CareFlight doctor, in a road ambulance, to Westmead Hospital where she was in a very serious condition on arrival at 1.30 pm.
