Quad bike crash boy flown to hospital (Freemans Reach)

A quad bike crash in a farm paddock left a teenage boy with head injuries at Freemans Reach, near Windsor, in Sydney’s outer north-west late today.

Ambulance officers called NRMA CareFlight’s trauma doctor to the property just after 5 pm to help treat the boy.

The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 16-year-old boy came off the quad bike while riding on the family farm and suffered head, chest and back injuries.

The boy’s failure to wear a helmet while riding the bike left him with more serious head injuries than would have been the case if he had been wearing proper head protection, the NRMA CareFlight doctor said.

The trauma doctor worked with ambulance paramedics to stabilise the boy who was placed on a ventilator to control his breathing.

He was flown to the Nepean Hospital where he was admitted shortly after 6.30 pm in a serious but stable condition.
