A building worker has suffered critical head injuries in a six metre fall onto concrete at a building site at Newtown, in inner Sydney, this afternoon.
An NRMA CareFlight trauma doctor flew to the site to work with ambulance paramedics in stabilising the unconscious man.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 55-year-old man, who lives at Bankstown, fell while working at a building site at King Street, Newtown, shortly before 1 pm.
The man also suffered a probable fractured leg.
The NRMA CareFlight flying squad landed in nearby Sydney Park where they were met by police who drove the doctor and duty paramedic to the building site.
The man is being sedated and placed on a ventilator to control his breathing.
He will be taken in a road ambulance, under treatment by the trauma doctor, to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for neurosurgical assessment.
He is expected to arrive at the hospital at about 2 pm.
