Third floor window fall leaves girl critical (Caringbah)

A young girl suffered critical head injuries when she fell from a third floor unit window at Caringbah in Sydney’s south this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the Curtis Street block at 1.42 pm.

The NRMA CareFlight flying trauma team landed in nearby Caringbah oval to meet an ambulance carrying the girl.

The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the five-year-old girl suffered critical head and possible spinal injuries and was left unconscious.

The doctor worked with ambulance paramedics in the road ambulance to stabilise the girl who was in a critical condition on arrival at St George Hospital.

The girl is expected to be transferred later today to the Westmead Children’s Hospital.

It was the third case over the past year where NRMA CareFlight has responded to a child who suffered head injuries in a fall from a window after a fly screen gave way.

The other children were injured at Bankstown in Sydney’s south-west and at Berowra to the north of the city.
