A police search found an injured woman who fell from her horse on an isolated trail in Scheyville National Park at Maraylya in Sydney’s outer north-west today.
An NRMA CareFlight trauma team landed in a nearby clearing to allow the crew doctor to treat the woman.
Emergency services rushed to a staging point on Whitmore Road after being alerted to the woman’s plight by her husband just after 10 am.
The woman was riding with a group of endurance riders but they were unsure of their location within the park at the time of the accident.
Two police trail riders and a police helicopter searched the park and found the woman close to where she fell from her horse.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 41-year-old woman, from nearby Ebeneza, was left unconscious for an estimated three minutes after she fell and hit a tree.
The woman suffered head and shoulder injuries and possible fractured ribs.
After stabilisation the woman was placed on board NRMA CareFlight under continuing treatment by the crew doctor.
She was flown to Westmead Hospital where she remained in a stable condition on arrival at 12.10 pm to undergo neurological examination and treatment to her other injuries.
