Water ride Central Coast woman's head injury (Wisemans Ferry)

A young Central Coast woman suffered severe concussion from a ski tube mishap on the Hawkesbury River near Wisemans Ferry north-west of Sydney today.

Other water skiers, nearby holidaymakers, police, ambulance and NRMA CareFlight rushed to the woman’s aid just before midday.

The NRMA CareFlight trauma team landed in Rosevale Caravan Park to treat the woman who was initially left unconscious in the middle of the Hawkesbury River.

The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 18-year-old woman, from Killarney Vale, hit the water head first after flipping high into the air when she lost control during a high-speed ride on the ski tube.

Holidaymakers helped the medical team carry the woman on one of the helicopter’s stretchers from the riverfront and over a barbed wire fence so she could be flown to hospital under full intensive care monitoring.

The woman remained semi-conscious and in a stable condition on arrival at Westmead Hospital at 1.40 pm.
