CareFlight medical team lands at Truscott Island (W.A.)

A CareFlight International Air Ambulance jet has just landed at Truscott Island, in Western Australia’s north-west, to assist the treatment and transfer of injured people from today’s refugee boat explosion off Ashmore Reef.

Emergency authorities earlier placed CareFlight’s national network of air ambulances on standby to assist the relief mission.

The jet, crewed by a CareFlight retrieval specialist doctor and intensive care nurse, took off from its Darwin base just under an hour ago.

The jet is also equipped with one of CareFlight International’s mobile intensive care modules.

The Northern Territory Government activated the Darwin-based CareFlight International Air Ambulance jet under its emergency response activation system.

Emergency and defence co-ordinators on Truscott Island will determine where the injured patients will be flown.
