A man suffered critical injuries when he was trapped under the sheets of timber he was starting to unload from a truck at Chullora in Sydney’s west today.
Another worker who went to his aid suffered minor hand injuries.
Emergency services and NRMA CareFlight’s critical care response team rushed to the freight company in Anzac Road in Chullora after being alerted to the man’s plight at 3.00pm.
The NRMA CareFlight helicopter landed in a nearby park where police met the medical team and took them to the accident site to work with ambulance paramedics and fire brigade officers.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the man, believed to be aged 60, was trapped under 15 sheets of the compressed plywood material when a semi-trailer’s load apparently shifted as staff was preparing to unload it.
The man was still trapped under the timber when the NRMA CareFlight doctor reached him.
Emergency personnel removed the 4 meter long sheets to allow the crew doctor to treat him for leg, abdominal and chest injuries.
After stabilization the man was flown to Liverpool hospital where he remained in a critical condition on arrival.
