A building worker suffered critical head injuries when he fell while working on a construction site at the Fairfield Detention Centre in Sydney’s south-west this afternoon.
Ambulance paramedics and an NRMA CareFlight doctor rushed to the centre in Birmingham Avenue shortly after midday.
The helicopter landed on a grass area outside the main gate to join ambulance and police in the response.
The crew doctor went into the centre to work with paramedics in treating the man.
The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 29-year-old man was unconscious after falling four metres.
After initial stabilisation the man was taken, under continuing treatment by the crew doctor, in a road ambulance to Liverpool Hospital.
No further information was initially available.
