A Seaforth man was left briefly unconscious on his yacht as he sailed into The Spit, in Sydney’s north, after a cruise with friends on Sydney Harbour today. As the yacht’s mainsail was being lowered the boom hit the man on the head, leaving him with facial cuts and a scalp wound. A radio call from the yacht brought ambulance, police and NRMA CareFlight teams to meet the yacht as it put in at The Spit, minutes after the alert at 2.10 pm. The NRMA CareFlight doctor said the 82-year-old man quickly regained consciousness but remained confused. Ambulance paramedics and the trauma doctor boarded the yacht and treated the man. He was then taken by ambulance, under continuing care by the CareFlight doctor, to Royal North Shore Hospital for neurological examination where he remained in a stable condition on arrival.
