Ko'd bicycle boy flown from Berrima

Updated at 3.30pm.

A boy was left initially unconscious when he fell from the bicycle he was riding at Berrima, in the Southern Highlands, this afternoon.

Ambulance paramedics and an NRMA CareFlight rapid response trauma team rushed to the boy's aid shortly before 1 pm.

The boy lost control of his bike, hit a drain and was thrown over the handlebars, landing head first.

The helicopter landed in an adjacent park to allow the two CareFlight doctors to team with ambulance paramedics treating the boy in Oxley Street.

The fall left the six-year-old Berrima boy initially unconscious suffering facial injuries with his riding helmet cracked by the impact.

The boy was stabilised before he was flown to the Westmead Children's Hospital for neurological assessment where he remained in a stable condition on arrival.
