Teenage boy dragged 40m under 4WD at Canley Vale

A teenage boy suffered multiple injuries when he was knocked off his bicycle and dragged 40 metres under a 4WD at Canley Vale in Sydney's south-west tonight.

Ambulance, police and NRMA CareFlight rushed to the boy's aid when alerted to his plight shortly before 8.30 pm.

Using night vision technology the NRMA CareFlight trauma team was able to land in a park just 300 metres from the Sackville Street accident site.

The NRMA CareFlight doctor said it was believed the 14-year-old boy, from nearby Cabramatta, was knocked down before he was dragged under the 4WD along the street before it was able to stop.

The boy suffered head injuries, a fractured skull and severe abrasions.

The specialist trauma doctor worked with ambulance paramedics to stabilise the boy.

The doctor administered a general anaesthetic then placed the boy on a ventilator to control his breathing.

The boy was taken under continuing intensive care treatment by the NRMA CareFlight doctor, in a road ambulance, to the Westmead Children's Hospital where he was in a critical condition on arrival.

Police investigations are continuing.
