Fatality in car wrapped around pole - Chester Hill

The NRMA CareFlight Rapid Response Critical Care team responded to a single car accident on Gurney Road, Chester Hill just before 3:30 this afternoon.

The vehicle, with two males on board, hit a power pole causing the car to almost break in half. Live powerlines fell on the car delaying access to vehicle for a short time until they could be isolated. One male has been killed and the other is in a critical condition.

The CareFlight Doctor working with Ambulance Service paramedics treated the critically injured person in the Holden Commodore while Fire Brigades Rescue crews cut the car away.

The man suffered multiple fractures, severe bleeding and a head injury. The CareFlight Doctor gave the injured man a blood transfusion and put him in an induced coma whilst he was still trapped in the vehicle. The rescue took just over an hour.

The male patient was transported to Liverpool Hospital by road ambulance with the CareFlight medical crew on board.

The CareFlight Doctor said the young male survivor is in a critical condition with major fractures to most of his lower body.
