Horse falls on show jumping rider at equestrian event

A 17-year-old girl from Clarence Town in the Hunter Valley is in a serious condition in Liverpool Hospital after falling from a horse and then being crushed under the animal at Camden this afternoon.

The CareFlight rapid response critical care team rushed to the accident at the Bicentennial Park Equestrian Centre in Camden just before 3pm this afternoon.

The girl had been knocked unconscious from the fall, then crushed across the chest and abdomen when the 16 hand horse she was riding landed on her.

The CareFlight helicopter landed in a nearby paddock as the first ambulance arrived. The CareFlight doctor worked with ambulance paramedics to revive the girl at the scene.

The doctor put the girl into an induced coma and intubated her before transporting her to Liverpool Hospital by road ambulance. The girl is in a serious but stable condition.
