Wetherill Park man flown from Appin Road crash

A man was flown to hospital by CareFlight after his car and a truck collided in poor weather on the Appin Road, west of Wollongong, tonight.

Emergency services rushed to the crash at the eastern end of Appin Road to treat the two occupants of the car shortly after 7 pm.

At the request of ambulance paramedics, a CareFlight trauma team defied rain and low cloud to meet the paramedics at the Appin recreation park.

The CareFlight doctor said the 25-year-old man, from Wetherill Park in Sydney’s south-west, suffered a fractured pelvis while his woman passenger escaped with minor injuries.

After stabilisation the man was flown by CareFlight to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition while his passenger was taken by ambulance to St George Hospital.

The injured man is placed on board CareFlight for the flight to hospital.
