CareFlight holds teaching accreditation with the Critical Care Colleges of Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics and Intensive Care. As well as employing senior specialists in these fields, we recruit senior registrars who spend six months learning to care for the critically injured in a pre-hospital, inter-hospital and aeromedical retrieval environment.
To apply for a position with CareFlight you must be an advanced trainee, preferably in your second last or final year of training in emergency medicine, anaesthetics, intensive care or related specialities. You should have extensive experience in the management of critically ill patients, including trauma, and completed EMST or equivalent. Completion of APLS and/or MIMMS is desirable.
Applicants should be of above average fitness and have the ability to work in unusual environments, including heights or water. You should also have the ability to safely adapt clinical practice as the environment requires.
Superior communication skills and good computer and administration skills are an advantage.
Applicants should be eligible for medical registration in Australia and should hold a current passport.
Following receipt of your application a fitness test will be organised. Interview is dependent on successful completion of the fitness test.
Application Form for Registrar Training Position
CareFlight employs registered nurses to work as part of an integrated aeromedical crew across a variety of transport platforms, including helicopters and domestic and international fixed wing air ambulances.
CareFlight nurses are required to have at least five years nursing experience, with four years emergency/critical care experience, critical care qualifications and current certification in ALS/ACLS or TNP/TNCC.
To apply for a postion with CareFlight you must be physically capable of meeting the challenges of aeromedical practice, including helicopter retrieval work, and you must have a demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team member in a critical, 'out of hospital' environment.
Applicants should have highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; effective consultation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills; and good time management, problem solving and decision making skills.
Paediatric experience, current midwifery nursing certification, HUET and previous experience working in the area of indigenous health are desirable.
Applicants should hold a current passport and current driver's licence.
CareFlight provides initial training which is specifically tailored to the retrieval environment in which you will be working, as well as ongoing inservice education.
