Motor Accidents Authority

MAA

The NSW Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) is proud to be a supporter of NRMA CareFlight.

The MAA monitors and supervises the Compulsory Third Party (CTP) or 'Greenslips' Scheme for all motor vehicles registered in NSW and works to provide a Scheme that is affordable, fair and accessible and minimises the impact of motor vehicle accidents.

The Greenslip Helpline and Website

The MAA has a Greenslip Helpline and Website to assist motorists in accessing the best Greenslip prices for their individual needs. They provide the best Greenslip price for motorists, based on each insurer's risk rating factors and the motorist’s vehicle and driving history.

The Greenslip Helpline is 1300 137 600.

The Greenslip website includes a calculator where registered drivers answer a series of questions to identify the best Greenslip price for their circumstances.

Recent Changes

In October 2006, the Scheme was expanded to include a special no-fault benefit for children aged up to 16, where the driver of the vehicle was not ‘at fault’. The expanded scheme covered all children injured in motor vehicle accidents (as pedestrians or pedal cyclists) for all medical treatment, rehabilitation and care costs.

On October 2007 the Scheme was expanded to provide lifetime medical care and support for everyone catastrophically injured in a motor accident regardless of who was at fault.

Basically, this means everyone is now protected under the Lifetime Care and Support Scheme.

The MAA recognises the vital role NRMA Careflight plays in transporting injured people to hospital - many of whom have been injured in motor vehicle accidents.

They work to help drivers avoid an NRMA Careflight trip by adopting 4 simple driving measures:

  • If you plan to drink don't drive;
  • Take it easy and stick to the posted speed limit;
  • Avoid driving when you're tired; and
  • Always make sure you and your passengers wear seatbelts.
