CareFlight is an Australian charitable organisation with 30 years’ experience in aeromedicine. With bases in NSW and the NT’s Top End, our crews are dedicated to providing the highest standard of rapid response critical care to the ill and injured. Our specially trained doctors and nurses use helicopters, aeroplanes, medi-jets and road ambulances to bring a hospital level of care to and transport around 5,000 patients each year.

The role

We currently have an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Ground Support Officer at our Darwin Base. Reporting to the Engineering Base Manager and working closely with the Engineering team your role will be to provide support services to CareFlight personnel by maintaining the hangar facilities on a daily basis.

Key responsibilities include:

  • general DIY and support tasks required by the engineers;
  • cleaning the outside of the rotary wing and fixed wing aircraft
  • maintaining hangar floor and engineering kitchen cleanliness at all times
  • maintaining the cleanliness and refuelling of all engineering vehicles
  • providing assistance (including leave coverage) for engineering stores
  • other duties as directed by engineering management 

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess the following:

  • be able to identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
  • experience working around aircraft and an understanding of the safety requirements to carry out tasks in such an environment
  • effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • a demonstrated ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced environment
  • be physically capable of meeting the challenges of aeromedical practice, including working around helicopters and fixed wing aircraft
  • a proven ability to function effectively as a team member in a critical environment
  • current drivers’ licence

The following will be highly regarded:

  • an Australian Security Identification Card (ASIC) or the ability to obtain;
  • an Authority to Drive Airside (ADA) or the ability to obtain; and
  • previous experience in an Aviation environment
