A 50-year-old cyclist has sustained critical head injuries after falling from his bike at the intersection of Mona Vale Road and Pacific Highway.

It is understood that the man was riding downhill in a group when he fell head-first over his bike.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked shortly before 9:00am and landed 15 minutes later to drop CareFlight’s specialist doctor and paramedic, at the scene of the incident where police had closed off the road. The helicopter immediately departed to help clear the busy scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment to the man and CareFlight’s specialist aeromedical clinical team stabilised the patient by intubating and placing him into an induced coma.

The patient was transported by road ambulance in a critical condition to Royal North Shore Hospital under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team.
