A teenage girl sustained a serious head injury during a tackle while playing tackle football in Erina, Central Coast, this afternoon.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly after 2.00pm and landed about 20 minutes later on the playing field grounds in Erina.

NSW Ambulance were on scene providing initial treatment for the injured girl.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on the girl, intubated the patient and placed her in an induced coma to stabilise her.

The clinical team continued providing care as the girl was airlifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a serious but stable condition.
