A man aged in his 30s suffered serious injuries when he fell from his bicycle while on a road ride near Waterfall this morning.

The man was riding at pace with a group of cyclists along the Princes Highway when he fell to the road and lost consciousness.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene about 3km north of Waterfall shortly after 9am, landing on the highway in 11 minutes flying time.

Police closed both lanes of the northbound side of the highway, allowing the helicopter to land. Ambulance crews were also on scene helping the fallen rider.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man for head and limb injuries.

The CareFlight medical crew continued treating the man as he was taken by road to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
