Craig was enjoying a scenic tour in the remote NT, when disaster struck. It was mid-flight, when the engine suffered catastrophic failure. All Craig heard was the pilot say, “Brace” – as they plummeted 130 metres out of the sky. He said the fall took just seconds, but the impact was incredibly violent – “We just kept rolling, a tree had come straight through and smashed the window.”
Craig’s rescue was a massive, complex mission, taking around 12 hours, involving multiple CareFlight crews and aircraft. Craig felt “incredible relief”, knowing CareFlight’s crew was able to land and reach him within hours, even in the dark.
