A man in his 60s has suffered partial burns to his upper body following a fuel explosion at Arcadia this morning.
The man was repairing a vehicle at his home when the incident occurred and he was able to jump into a nearby swimming pool to initiate early cooling of the burns before emergency services arrived.
The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance shortly after 11.45am and landed 10 minutes later in a paddock adjacent to the scene. Members of the Rural Fire Service were on scene providing first aid. NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived simultaneously with the CareFlight medical team who worked together to provide medical treatment for the man.
CareFlight’s medical team performed a clinical assessment on the man, who remained conscious. Burns dressings, a fluid drip and pain relief were administered to the patient, who was then prepared for transport to hospital.
The man was taken by air on board the Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter to the Burns Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital in a stable condition under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s medical team.
