An 81-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital after his car rolled on the Great Western Highway in Valley Heights this morning.
It’s understood the car was traveling in a westbound lane when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle before hitting the median strip, rolling over when in the eastbound lane and then hitting a power pole.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked at 10.16am, landing shortly after a few metres from the scene.
The man remained trapped in the vehicle for a period, with NSW Fire & Rescue and Police Rescue teams working to free him. NSW Ambulance was also on scene.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the man for chest and lower limb injures while he remained trapped and throughout his removal from the wreckage.
The man was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
