Emergency services combined to rescue a man who was injured when he plunged into deep water at popular Florence Falls in Litchfield Park south of Darwin today.
Visitors alerted park rangers shortly after 3.30pm when the 25-year-old man failed to surface after he jumped an estimated eight metres into the plunge pool.
The visitors and rangers recovered the man who was left initially unconscious.
They treated the man until nurses from the Batchelor Health Clinic, St John paramedics, police and a CareFlight doctor and nurse arrived.
The man’s breathing returned as he was treated for chest and back injuries.
The man was taken to a CareFlight King Air aircraft which landed at the Batchelor airstrip before he was flown to Darwin.
The man remained in a stable condition on arrival at Royal Darwin Hospital shortly after 7.30pm.
It was the second major rescue at the Litchfield Park pool in less than a month.
In late March a Queensland woman was flown to hospital by CareFlight after she collapsed while walking up the stairs after a visit to Florence Falls.
Following further treatment at Royal Darwin Hospital, the 61-year-old woman was flown by a CareFlight medi-jet team for specialist cardiac surgery in Brisbane.
