A man injured when his quad bike fell on him near Pine Creek was flown 190km to hospital in Darwin this afternoon.
Nurses from the Pine Creek Health Clinic drove 40km to the accident site when they were alerted to the 47-year-old man’s plight shortly before 10.30am.
Police briefly closed Kakadu Highway at the Mary River station turnoff after Darwin’s CareFlight rescue helicopter was called, to allow their medical team to work with the nurses treating the man near Harriot Creek.
The man said he was unloading a quad bike from a trailer behind his 4WD when a ramp collapsed and the bike fell on him.
He suffered back and chest injuries.
After stabilisation, the man was flown on the CareFlight rescue helicopter under treatment from the crew doctor and flight nurse to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remained in a stable condition on arrival at 1.25pm.
