A woman, aged in her 50s, has sustained burns to her face, hands, legs and chest after falling into freshly laid hot bitumen outside a St Ives Chase residence this morning.
Construction workers from the site administered first aid for the woman.
The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was tasked shortly before 10:00am and landed in a nearby oval where CareFlight’s medical team made their way to the scene of the incident. NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment for the patient including cooling and pain relief.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance’s critical care paramedic conducted a clinical assessment on the woman, including further pain relief and continued treatment and cooling of the patient’s burns.
CareFlight’s medical team provided ongoing monitoring for the woman as she was transported by road with NSW Ambulance in a stable condition to Royal North Shore Hospital.
As the Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter was flying back to base, at approximately 11:30am, the crew was tasked to another incident at a Portland property where a boy had come off his dirt bike. The boy sustained chest and suspected spinal injuries.
CareFlight’s aeromedical team landed within the grounds of the property and the specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance’s critical care paramedic assessed the child’s condition. They conducted an ultrasound and administered pain relief while undertaking spinal precautions.
CareFlight’s medical team continued providing care to the patient as he was airlifted in a stable condition to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
