What’s included in your flight?

Using CareFlight-operated aircraft and our team of doctors, nurses, pilots and drivers, we deliver an entire bed to bed air ambulance service, from receiving the initial call for assistance, through to admission at the destination hospital.

CareFlight’s Air Ambulance jets are configured to carry CareFlight critical care nurses and a doctor, and can carry one stretchered patient plus one accompanying passenger (confirmed on a case-by-case basis).

Our specialist clinical teams are highly skilled and are trained to work together to provide the best clinical care for our patients. Our doctors are specialists in aeromedical retrieval.

What is an air ambulance?

An air ambulance is a medically configured fixed-wing aircraft used to transport patients over long distances while providing continuous clinical care. These aircraft are equipped with advanced ICU medical equipment and staffed by highly experienced aeromedical professionals, allowing critically ill or injured patients to be safely transferred internationally when commercial travel is not possible or medically appropriate.

Is an air ambulance free from Bali?

The short answer is no, air ambulance services are not free. The cost depends on the patient’s circumstances, the provider, state health policies. Air Ambulance services in Indonesia are generally arranged through insurers, assistance providers or via family/friends of the patient.

What is the cost of air ambulance from Bali?

The cost of an air ambulance can vary significantly depending on factors such as flight distance, aircraft type, the level of medical care required, and the organisation providing the service.

Travel insurance may cover some or all of the cost of an air ambulance retrieval, depending on the patient’s medical condition and the level of cover in their policy. If a patient does not have travel insurance—or if their policy does not include medical retrieval—they are responsible for the full cost of transport and care.

In many cases, a dedicated medical jet is not required. If a patient is stable and mobile enough, they may be able to travel on a commercial airline with a medical escort. This escort may be a nurse, a doctor, or both, depending on the patient’s needs.

Typical costs

If you do not have travel insurance or medical evacuation cover typical costs may be as follows:

  • Medical escort on a commercial flight: $10,000–$40,000, depending on distance and the level of medical support required.
  • Dedicated air ambulance jet retrieval: $60,000 to well over $100,000+, depending on the patient’s condition and the distance travelled.

CareFlight is a registered Australian charity, and all proceeds support our mission to deliver lifesaving care to people in need across Australia.
