A four-year-old boy has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after he was pulled from the water unconscious at a lagoon at Avoca Beach this afternoon.
A six-year-old girl was also pulled from the water at the same incident and taken to hospital by road.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly before 6.00pm, landing in a park beside the beach.
Ambulance paramedics were on scene providing initial treatment. Surf Life Savers from the beach also attended with off-duty doctors on location also assisting.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment in order to stabilise the boy. The boy was intubated and placed in an induced coma before being transferred to the helicopter.
He was flown to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.
CareFlight’s medical team assessed the six-year-old child as stable and she was taken by road ambulance crews to Gosford Hospital.
CareFlight’s medical team praised all the responders for their quick responses and vital contributions to helping the children.
