A driver suffered multiple injuries when the caravan she was towing rolled on the Stuart Highway 30 km south of Adelaide River township this afternoon.

Emergency services including police, health clinic, fire-rescue and CareFlight were called to the crash shortly before 1 pm.

Police stopped traffic to allow the CareFlight Rescue Helicopter to land on the highway.

Staff from Adelaide River health clinic combined with the CareFlight doctor and nurse to treat the Adelaide woman who was initially trapped in the driver’s seat.

The male passenger was able to free himself from the station wagon but the caravan was destroyed.

The woman, accompanied by the uninjured driver, was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital and remained in a stable condition on arrival at 3 pm.
