A 64-year-old woman was involved in a single-vehicle rollover earlier today on Medowie Road, Medowie, near Port Stephens, when she suffered a suspected medical episode.

The woman suffered serious injuries to her arms and chest and was trapped in her vehicle.

CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter was tasked by NSW Ambulance at 12:45pm from the Westmead hangar and 45 minutes later in on Medowie Road, close to the scene of the incident. NSW Ambulance paramedics were providing initial treatment while emergency services personnel from the State Emergency Services were extricating the woman.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and NSW Ambulance critical care paramedic performed a clinical assessment on woman, including an ultrasound to assess her injuries. They conducted a roadside blood and plasma infusion and CareFlight’s clinical team intubated the patient and placed her in an induced coma to stabilise her.

The woman was transported by road with NSW Ambulance under ongoing observation from CareFlight’s clinical team to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
