A 28-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital after he was crushed by a large tree in the Douglas Daly region of the Northern Territory.

The forestry worker was working in the area when the tree fell on him, trapping him underneath.

CareFlight, operating the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, tasked the Top End Rescue Helicopter to the area.

CareFlight’s flight nurse and doctor exited the helicopter while it was in a hover, as the ground was too wet for landing. The helicopter then landed at a nearby homestead.

The medical team stabilised the patient and he was airlifted to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

CareFlight’s crew praised the forestry workers for being well prepared and having all the right emergency medical equipment with them.
