CareFlight crews have treated and transported two patients in separate incidents across Sydney today.
A 62-year-old man sustained significant injuries to his head, chest and abdomen after he fell approximately four metres from a truck and was crushed by 100kg of wood.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter team was tasked to Leura at 2:41PM and landed at Leura Oval at 3:05PM where they joined NSW Ambulance paramedics who provided initial treatment to the man. The man was transported to Leura Oval where CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic provided further treatment and conducted an ultrasound.
The patient was transported in a critical, but stable condition by the CareFlight helicopter to Liverpool Hospital.
NSW Police was also at the scene of the incident.
Shortly after the incident in Leura, at 5.57PM CareFlight was tasked to treat a man who’d fallen from an escalator in Macquarie University Train Station. The man, aged in his 50s, was in an electric wheelchair on an escalator when he fell 100 stairs, (approximately 10 metres), and was knocked unconscious.
Fire and Rescue NSW helped retrieve the man and NSW Ambulance paramedics provided initial treatment.
CareFlight’s Rapid Response Helicopter landed in Wilga Park at 6:06PM. CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic walked to the scene of the accident at Macquarie University Train Station and intubated to stabilise the patient.
The man was transported by road ambulance with CareFlight’s doctor and paramedic to Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition.
NSW Police provided support for both incidents.
