A 6-year-old boy was initially knocked unconscious when hit by a car when leaving school in Sydney’s inner west this afternoon.

The accident happened at the end of the school day, with the car understood to be travelling slowly, within the school zone low speed limit.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Haberfield at 3:17pm, landing in the grounds at Haberfield Public School.

The medical crew immediately walked to the scene and met the patient, who was being cared for by witnesses and NSW Ambulance crews.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic provided treatment for head injuries.

They escorted the boy in a road ambulance to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where he was admitted in a stable condition.
