A 38-year-old man has been airlifted to hospital in a serious but stable condition after a welding-related accident in Kincumber this afternoon.

The man suffered burns to the face and upper body when he was welding a beer tank at a brewery and there was an explosion.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked shortly after 4.30pm, landing in a park near the accident scene. Ambulance crews providing initial treatment transported the man to meet the helicopter.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic further treated the man, placing him in an induced coma to stabilise him.

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital’s specialist burns unit for ongoing treatment.
