A 10-year-old boy was lucky to escape more serious injury after being hit by a car south-west of Sydney this afternoon.
The boy, who was wearing a helmet, was struck on a suburban street in Camden Park.
CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter flew to Camden Showground shortly after 5.00pm to rendezvous with local NSW Ambulance crews who were treating the boy.
CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic treated the boy for a fractured leg and cuts and abrasions at the scene.
The medical crew escorted the boy by road to Westmead Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The crew said the fact the boy was wearing a helmet may have saved his life or prevented a serious head injury.
