Park rangers blocked a busy Litchfield National Park road to allow a CareFlight medical team to treat a seriously ill toddler today.

Their action allowed Darwin’s CareFlight rescue helicopter to land at the intersection of Litchfield Park and Wangi Falls roads after being alerted to the child’s condition shortly before 2 pm.

A CareFlight doctor and flight nurse stabilised the 14-month-old girl who suffered a medical condition on the park outing with her parents who were visiting from interstate.

After stabilisation the girl, accompanied by her mother, was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment.

She remained in a stable condition on arrival at the hospital at 3.30 pm.

The CareFlight helicopter crew praised park rangers who combined with a Darwin doctor and nurse who were visiting the popular site to initially treat the girl and then for quick support in blocking the road to allow the helicopter to land safely.
