A 42-year-old man has been flown to hospital in a serious but stable condition after falling from a balcony on Sydney’s northern beaches this morning.

CareFlight’s rapid response rescue helicopter was tasked to Palm Beach shortly after 10.30am, landing in Hitchcock Park.

The man was initially unconscious after falling five metres.

CareFlight’s specialist doctor and intensive care paramedic assessed the man at the scene. He was semi-conscious with head injuries and abrasions.

It appeared the man was lucky to avoid landing directly on rocks or a retaining wall below.

NSW Ambulance, Fire & Rescue NSW and Police all assisted in transferring the man to the helicopter from the steep and difficult to access terrain.

He was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital to undergo further tests and observation.
