A 68-year-old man has fallen an estimated four metres through a garage roof while repairing damage from yesterday’s strong winds.

The man sustained head and critical chest injuries and NSW Ambulance provided initial treatment and transported the patient to a neighbour’s paddock to meet CareFlight.

CareFlight was tasked to Kenthurst shortly after 8:30AM and landed in the paddock. CareFlight’s specialist doctor and critical care paramedic conducted emergency roadside surgery for the man’s immediately life threatening injuries, placing him in an induced coma and providing intubation at the scene to stabilise the patient. The man received a blood and plasma transfusion in the paddock.

The patient was transported via road ambulance with CareFlight’s critical care team to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

CareFlight’s doctor would like to acknowledge the neighbour for his cooperation, “Special thanks to the man’s neighbour who allowed the CareFlight aeromedical crew to land in his paddock to deliver a hospital-level of care at the scene.”
