A 49-year-old man has been flown to hospital after he suffered a medical emergency whilst working on a pearl farm off the coast of Gove.

The man was 90 kilometres offshore when his boss alerted CareFlight to the situation.

CareFlight, operating the Top End Medical Retrieval Service on behalf of the Northern Territory Government, sent a Flight Nurse to the area in a NT Water Police vessel.

CareFlight’s Flight Nurse and St John Ambulance Paramedics both treated the man as he was taken back to shore in the police vessel.

He was taken to Gove District Hospital, before a decision was made to send him to Darwin for further treatment.

The man was flown to Royal Darwin Hospital onboard a CareFlight King Air in a stable condition.
